What is Nonduality?

What is Non Duality?

Technically speaking, nonduality is a philosophy. Nondual means “not two”.The core of the message of nondualism is that everything is “one”. Spiritually, this implies that you and Spirit are one.

This often sounds radical to people because many of us were taught at an early age that humans and Spirit are separate, and that if we want to get “close to spirit” we have to work on ourselves. That we have to make progress.

Progress means process. Progress is an illusion because you can’t get closer to something that you already are. So we’ve come up with a word for this process, we call it “spirituality”. As spiritual people, we get very good at telling ourselves that we are more or less “spiritual”. Closer or farther. Bad or good, etc. We get good at jumping through mental and physical hoops to feel like we're getting closer to spirit.

The hoops are endless. We hop from one discipline to the next. One philosophy to the next, one method to the next, one book to the next, one guru to the next. Perhaps you have better focus and you stick to one method, but the danger here is that you may be stuck endlessly refining the same efforts and practices. Nonduality empirically proves that none of this is necessary.

I want to share nondualism with you because if you are like I was, I know that you are a seeker. Trying to find Spirit, God, enlightenment. Whatever you want to call it. You want to reach the goal. I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to seek anymore. Not because you found me, but because right now, in this very moment, you are already one with Spirit. You already are enlightened. You just haven’t realized it yet. This is the core of nondualism. Not two. One.

So, this is the pickle: For us to understand the philosophy of nonduality, we can’t be philosophers in the traditional sense. We are not trying to use mental logic to grasp concepts and meanings outside of ourselves. Not two. One. Therefore, we have to turn our attention inward. We have to look at ourselves. God/ spirit/ enlightenment is not found without; it is found within. Not two. One.

You and Spirit are not separate, you are one. The beautiful thing is, to find God, really means to find yourself.

This is what the ancient sages call the Self. With a capital “S”. Self-realization. Nonduality simplifies things. When we are practicing nonduality, we cut out the extra crap and we focus on the very moment, because the very moment you are experiencing now, this very second is non dual. It is the state you are already in, presently. There is only one being. You are the omnipresent divine spirit experiencing itself.

Ask yourself, in this very moment, what is the common thing each of us shares? What is inside all of us and outside all of us presently?( all 7 billion of us.) The answer is consciousness. What I like to call, non-particular awareness. God is consciousness, and you are that also.

The practitioner of nonduality realizes that. Not so much by effort, but by instant awakening. This is not a belief. This is a fundamental shift in one's awareness and experience of the world. That is why I say nonduality empirically proves that we are one with spirit, because it is experienced. Firsthand.

In this post, I’ve explained what nondualism is and its goal. We have even taken a peek at the method of Self-inquiry. I have purposely left out of this post the history of nondualism, the Wikipedia-type content, because learning about that stuff is not the goal. The goal of nonduality, why it exists, is Self-realization: To discover that eternal and immutable personal connection with spirit.

If you would like to learn more, I would be honored to help you reach your goal. Please subscribe to my monthly newsletter, as I will be sharing more about my personal experience, as well as going deeper into the practice of nondualism.

With Love,
